Safety

At Severfield Europe, safety is our top priority every day. For ourselves, for each other, for everyone we work with. Safety means that we not only pay attention to our own actions, but also look out for each other. We know that it is not always easy to speak up. That is precisely why it is so important that we do so anyway – because one simple comment can prevent an accident. Safety is not a rule we follow – it is a responsibility we feel. In the production hall, on the construction site, on the road or in the office: we think ahead, speak to each other and ensure each other's safety. Together, we are building a culture in which everyone comes home safely. Today, tomorrow, always.

''Safety begins with ourselves, by being mindful of safety in everything we do. By taking responsibility together, treating each other with respect, and collaborating with our partners, we continue to build a chain in which safety is a given.''

Norbert Nijhuis, Divisional Managing Director at Severfield Europe

Safety culture

Our safety culture is based on four building blocks:

1. PROCESSWe reduce complexity by simplifying and standardising where possible. This creates space to focus on what really makes a difference.

3. PEOPLEWe strengthen commitment and (personal) leadership. Every employee has a voice. We do not look at who failed, but at what failed.

2. CONTROLSWe focus on safe execution with clear standards for high-risk activities. Minor incidents also receive appropriate attention.

4. SYSTEMSWe think systemically: we look beyond mere outcomes and consider the broader context. We use data and insights to drive action, progress and lasting impact.

Safety principles

LEADING WITH CARE

Safety leadership is about being accountable for understanding and supporting what our workers need through learning from normal work.

EFFECTIVE CONTROLS

Safety is defined by the presence of controls that ensure safe operations through their ability to manage risk under varying conditions.

ENGAGING WITH EMPLOYEES

Our culture embraces learning and continual improvement through worker engagement and support.

Accreditations

At Severfield Europe, safety is unquestionably our top priority. Our accreditations are proof of this: they demonstrate that we not only comply with industry standards, but that we have structurally embedded safety into our way of working.

Safety Culture Ladder - Level 3

The Safety Culture Ladder encourages organisations to embed safety structurally in their culture. Certification at Level 3 means that safety is widely supported at all levels of our organisation. Our employees actively contribute to identifying, discussing and managing risks. In doing so, we demonstrate that working safely is not just a policy for us, but an integral part of our behaviour and our convictions.

VCA Petrochemie

The VCA Petrochemical standard was developed for high-risk sectors such as petrochemicals and sets high standards for safety, risk management and training. With this accreditation, we demonstrate that we are capable of working safely in complex industrial environments, where safety always comes first.
