Our engineers develop efficient steel structures that meet the technical and functional requirements of every project. In doing so, we look beyond the structural design alone. From an early stage, we take into account material usage, connections, production, logistics and assembly.
By applying our engineering expertise at an early stage, we can optimise design choices, reduce material usage and identify potential bottlenecks early. In this way, we help clients save costs, minimise risks and ensure that the project is carried out more efficiently.
With Severfield Engineering Netherlands B.V., we have our own specialist engineering firm for the design and engineering of steel structures. Our structural engineers, detail engineers and project engineers work closely with our project teams. This ensures that the design is assessed not only from a structural perspective, but also in terms of manufacturability and feasibility. Aspects such as material selection, connections, tolerances, production methods, transport, assembly sequence and assembly methodology can thus be taken into account as early as the engineering stage.

By involving our engineers at an early stage of a project, we can contribute ideas on the technical details of the steelwork before key design decisions are finalised. Working in collaboration with clients, architects, structural engineers, contractors and other project partners, we examine the structural principles, technical interfaces and requirements relating to production and assembly. This enables solutions to be assessed at an early stage for structural feasibility, manufacturability and practicality, and allows for any optimisations to be incorporated before the engineering is developed further.
By critically assessing the steel structure, we look for ways to make the design more efficient, more manufacturable and easier to implement. Depending on the project, this may, for example, relate to steel weight, material usage, connections, repetition in structural details and the way in which components are manufactured, transported and assembled. Where possible, design optimisation can contribute to reduced material usage and material waste, a lower carbon footprint and more efficient production and assembly.
In doing so, we look beyond mere structural design. The choice of materials, production methods, fire protection, surface treatment and assembly methods can also form part of the technical assessment. In this way, we evaluate the design in conjunction with the requirements placed on the steel structure during production and construction.
BIM is a key component of our engineering and design coordination. Our 3D models facilitate the coordination of the steel structure with other disciplines and form the basis for further detailing, production preparation and assembly. By coordinating structural and project information digitally, technical interfaces and potential clashes can be identified before they affect production or construction.
Does your project involve a complex steel structure or present a technical challenge? Involve our engineers early on in the process so that we can work together to assess structural feasibility, optimise the design and ensure efficient implementation.
