This week we started the assembly of the steel structure of a unique distribution centre: Ara Almelo. It will be built next to the entrance of the XL Businesspark Twente on the A35 highway. Heembouw Bedrijfsruimten West is our client.

When designing the building, Heembouw Architects took nature into account in addition to architecture, technology and functionality. The result is a unique green screen of almost fifteen meters high and almost one kilometre long around the distribution centre, giving it a green appearance. We take care of the assembly of the screen, which consists of facade steel with mesh against which ivy grows.
In the preparatory phase, Heembouw and Voortman organized joint BIM sessions on a weekly basis, during which the 3D models were subjected to clash checks. Together we solved the emerging main concerns in the preliminary phase, to avoid unpleasant surprises during the implementation.
The distribution centre consists of four halls with a total area of almost 40,000 square meters, offices and a mezzanine. We supply and assemble the steel structure, the hollow-core slab floors and the prefab concrete elements for the parapet and the elevator shaft. We will finish our works on the distribution centre by mid-April.
