Elements, an iconic residential tower in Amsterdam
In the Amstel Quarter in Amsterdam, Severfield Steel Construction is co-building a unique residential tower called Elements, commissioned by Kondor Wessels Amsterdam. The 70-meter-high building will house 70 rental and 70 owner-occupied apartments. Completion is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
SHAPED BY THE ELEMENTS
Elements is a place in the city where all the elements come together. Here, future residents can fully enjoy a life in the city, surrounded by nature. In addition to housing, the building will accommodate an indoor swimming pool overlooking the Amstel River and commercial facilities. It will also have an indoor garden and green forest-like roof gardens. In 2020, Elements, developed by KondorWessels Vastgoed, won the top prize at the London Design Awards.
JOINT CONSTRUCTION PLAN
Severfield Steel Construction is supplying and assembling the structural steel with a weight of over 676 tonnes. In recent months, our engineering and assembly colleagues have already been working hard on the project in the preparatory phase. During a LEAN session, a joint construction plan was drawn up in close cooperation with Kondor Wessels Amsterdam and various subcontractors. The hybrid construction requires good coordination to ensure that concrete and steel fit perfectly.
MINIMAL DEVIATIONS
Currently, the columns for the building are being produced in our workshop in Rijssen. The first steel for the tower will be delivered on site in July. Construction work has started here on the basement and plinth of the building, for which we have already delivered and partially assembled just under 40 tonnes of steel. Due to the special shape of the structure, with cantilevers on two sides from the fourth to the tenth floor, very precise assembly is required with minimal deviations in our construction. The effects of settlement on the steel structure must also be taken into account. This demands a lot of craftsmanship and close cooperation with constructor ARUP and the other parties involved.
