Construction of new high-voltage substation in Tilburg in full swing

Once again, Severfield Steel Construction is contributing to the construction of a high-voltage substation, this time in Tilburg. Here, Samenwerking Croonwolter&dros and Mobilis (SC&M) are working with a number of other contractors to build a high-voltage substation the size of thirteen football pitches on behalf of national grid operator TenneT. It is one of many projects aimed at increasing the capacity of the Dutch electricity grid. We are working on this project together with the team with which we also carried out the Hollandse Kust Noord project.

Large-scale project

This new station is necessary to prevent bottlenecks in the region's energy supply. It will also connect production sites in the North Sea to the national high-voltage grid. To give an idea of the scale of the project: the total site covers around 35 hectares. Of this, around 6.5 hectares (equivalent to 13 football pitches) is designated for the high-voltage substation itself, which consists of three transformers and one reserve field for a fourth transformer.

High standards

Severfield Steel Construction is supplying no less than 500 tonnes of steel components for this station, such as supports for primary components, tensioning portals, main rails, steelwork for cable routing and lightning rods. These components meet high standards in terms of quality and corrosion resistance. They thus form an important link, not only in the realisation of a reliable energy infrastructure in the Tilburg region, but also in the transition to a sustainable future for the Dutch energy market.
