In Tilburg, Severfield Steel Construction is also contributing to the expansion of the Dutch electricity grid. Together with Samenwerking Croonwolter&dros and Mobilis (SC&M) and various other partners, we are building a high-voltage station covering an area of no less than thirteen football fields. The project has been commissioned by grid operator TenneT and represents an important step in increasing the capacity of the national grid. For us, it also feels familiar: we are once again working with the team that successfully completed the Hollandse Kust Noord project.
The station is intended to prevent future bottlenecks in the energy supply in Central Brabant and will also enable wind farms in the North Sea to be connected to the grid. The total site covers approximately 35 hectares, of which 6.5 hectares will be used for the station itself. Three transformers will be installed here, with an additional field reserved for a fourth.
Our work
For this large-scale project, we are supplying more than 500 tonnes of steel structures, ranging from supports for primary components to tensioning portals, main rails, steel for cable routing and lightning rods. All these components meet strict requirements in terms of quality and corrosion resistance. In doing so, we are not only contributing to a robust electricity grid for the Tilburg region, but also to the broader transition to a more sustainable energy system in the Netherlands.
