Construction of a parking garage for long-term parking at Eindhoven Airport. The garage is built according to the innovative concept of EZ Park and is modularly expandable.
The parking garage is a four-layer building with a light and demountable construction. The building consists of two strips on which cars can park on both sides, with a 6 m lane in between.
Between the strips there are two ramps, each opening up two floors. The main entrance with the stairwell is clearly visible from the access roads. This part of the building was enhanced with dark masonry and a translucent green five-storey light box. This makes it a landmark both during the day and at night.
Steel structure
The construction consists of a steel skeleton built from square tubes 250x250 mm on a 5 m grid. The columns are built from standard lengths with a head plate to bolt them together. IPE 360 beams run between the columns in the longitudinal direction of the building. Bracing by means of a steel strip. The floors are fitted with TT concrete slabs which span 16 m at one time. With the chosen construction, the floor height could be limited to 2.9 m. The facades are finished with galvanized steel grids.
The steel structure has been tested for car fires. The critical steel temperature was exceeded in places where the roadway runs under the beams and where cars park parallel to the beams. By executing the single steel beams in a steel grade S355 and carrying them out double, the original detailing could be maintained. So due to a small over-dimensioning on strength, no fire-resistant cladding was required for both the beams and the columns.
