Severfield is working on an impressive support structure under the A10 motorway near Amsterdam, commissioned by Bouwcombinatie Nieuw-Zuid (Mobilis, Boskalis, and Van Gelder). The project involves approximately 145 tons of steel, including the delivery and erection of a support structure, which is needed to temporarily widen the road and create space for the expansion of Amsterdam Zuid station.
Amsterdam Zuid station has been growing rapidly for years and is developing into one of the most important transport hubs in the region. In order to increase capacity and offer passengers more space and comfort, the station will undergo significant expansion in the coming years. An important part of this is freeing up space around the station. The A10 Zuid motorway, which currently runs alongside the station, will be moved underground in the future. This will create space in the area for a newly designed station environment. In preparation for this major work, a solid temporary foundation first had to be laid.

The temporary support structure that Severfield built for this project consists of a combination of atrium columns, truss portals, box columns, and steel yokes. Together, they form the system that temporarily supports and widens the A10. This widening is necessary in order to be able to work safely on the expansion of Amsterdam Zuid station, while allowing traffic on the A10 to continue as much as possible.
The support structure was assembled in several phases. First, the Hageman atrium columns and steel portals were installed. These form the basis for the support structure that will carry the A10 during the work.
In week 48, a carefully planned nighttime operation took place, during which the pre-assembled support parts were hoisted into place and installed. By carrying out this work at night, traffic disruption on the A10 motorway was kept to a minimum and the installation could be completed under safe conditions.
