In cooperation with engineering office Witteveen + Bos, Severfield realised reefer racks for DP World at Antwerp Gateway. With more than 65 terminals on six continents, DP World is one of the largest terminal operators in the world. Its head office is located in Dubai (U.A.E.).
The scope of the project included the delivery of 15 galvanised reefer racks, 12 reefer safety tunnels, and four 30-metre-high lighting masts. Each reefer rack comprises a steel structure with multiple levels. In total, approximately 2,000 m2 of grating floors were installed, along with 3.5 kilometres of protective fencing. Within the stacking area, 27 mesh-covered access gates were integrated into the structure.

Reefer racks
The primary purpose of a reefer rack is to supply stacked refrigerated containers with power in a safe and efficient manner. A typical reefer rack design consists of a main steel structure with multiple levels, each fitted with access platforms. The platforms are fully enclosed with protective fencing and can be reached via integrated staircases.
Reefer safety tunnels
The purpose of a reefer safety tunnel is to provide protected access to the reefer racks. By separating pedestrian routes from the container stacking area, terminal personnel can avoid potentially hazardous situations. For this project, we supplied a total of 12 safety tunnels.
